Why Do Some Users Disable the Comment Section on Their Posts and How Can We Address It?
I vaguely wonder about the last part of the post, although I don't know the point of disabling comments unless someone is hyper-sensitive to constructive criticism. I repeat my self by advising people to do or dream the impossible dream: do not take this too seriously—easier said than done.
Why is the Comment Function Disabled on Some People’s Answers?
As a general rule, comments on an answer are disabled by the person who has posted it. However, in Quora Spaces, the comment function is disabled either as a policy of the Space or by a Space owner or moderator. This can happen without the owners of the questions noticing, and even the owners can still make comments. This last case, which I have experienced lately, clearly shows a totally unfair, nonsensical, and even “sick” attitude and mindset. In my opinion, these Spaces are inhospitable and hostile.
Why Do Some Users Block Comments on Their Answers and How Can We Avoid It?
Such questions, like asking why homeowners lock their doors and windows, are personal choices. Many intelligent Quora users understand that:
Quora is not a DEBATE/ DISCUSSION FORUM. Comments are not required or an entitlement on Quora. Answer owners have the right to choose whether to allow comments, which are often confrontational, abusive, or argumentative. The biggest joke here is that this comes from the clueless Quora prompt robot.
Of course, I can't speak for all, but some comments and efforts to “set people straight” are wholly predictable and unwelcome. I might even guess that the more you feel the need to speak up, the more unwelcome your commentary will be and the less it will be appreciated.
Some people self-select to not have comments, and not having comments made my life easier. It really is that simple.
Conclusion
The decision to disable comments is ultimately a personal choice. While it might seem frustrating, understanding the context of why someone might choose to disable comments can help us all interact more respectfully.
