Why Rap Isn't My Jam: Reflecting on Music Preferences and Talent
Music is a diverse and vast realm, with countless genres and styles catering to different tastes and preferences. Personally, I've always found an inclination towards classical music, which I believe encapsulates the pinnacle of humanity's musical creativity and achievement. Let me share my reflections on this, along with a few reasons why I don't engage in or appreciate rap music.
Classical Music: The Heights of Musical Creativity
When it comes to music, I am very picky. Much of rap, in my opinion, falls far short of the quality I value in a piece of musical art. While there are undoubtedly talented rappers out there, I've come to the conclusion that the vast majority of rap music is merely 'garbage.' Rap often perpetuates negative stereotypes and leans towards a low intelligence, often ghetto-centric perspective. This is not to say that all rap music is negative, but on average, it doesn't resonate with me.
Personal Reflection and Interests
I am aware that I genuinely lack the musical talent necessary to be a rapper, and this realization has led me to prefer other forms of music. To be honest, I am not a particular fan of freestyle rapping, as I fear getting laughed at if I were to attempt it without being prepared. However, I can certainly understand the appeal of rap for those who resonate with its flow and style.
No Preference for Rap
Undoubtedly, I avoid rapping with anyone and equally do not enjoy listening to it. Unlike some who appreciate rap, I find myself more at ease when enjoying the quiet tones of classical music. Classical music, composed by the likes of Beethoven, Bach, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, has stood the test of time. Its legacy continues to be celebrated and performed centuries after its creation, which is not something that can be said about most rap songs.
The Future and Legal Aspects
Moreover, it's worth considering the future outlook of music. While classical music holds a timeless appeal, the trajectory of rap music is uncertain. However, I firmly believe that most rap pieces will not stand the test of time in the way that classical music has. In essence, the works of Beethoven, Bach, and the like are enduring beacons of human creativity, and while hip-hop has moments of brilliance, its lasting impact on the musical landscape seems less assured.
Rap as an Art Form
It's important to acknowledge that while I value classical music, I do recognize the artistic merit in rap music. Many rappers express their emotions, tell stories, and convey messages through their lyrics. Yet, I maintain that calling them 'musicians' is somewhat unjustified given the industry's demand for them to produce on the spot and the often lukewarm attitude towards formal education and skill development.
In summary, while I deeply appreciate and am drawn towards classical music for its complex and lasting appeal, my lack of musical talent and personal tastes steer me away from rap. I respect the artistry in rap, but I believe it doesn't capture the essence of being a true musician, as I define it.
